“When troubles fall within your dish,
And things don’t tally with your wish:
It’s just as well to laugh as cry–
To sing and joke, as moan and sigh;–
For a pound of sorrow never yet
Cancel’d a single ounce of debt.”
Joseph Plumb Martin 1777

I’d like to eventually be embedded with the troops. I want to report on war. I don’t care how many press credentials I need for this type of thing — really. I have this weird, almost ridiculous desire in my gut to see the worst of things. I’ve been like this since I was younger, always wanting to go to the worst neighborhoods in the city to see what it was like. Working in the News industry and talking to colleagues who have done it makes me want it even more. Reading about it, watching it on TV… I can’t express how badly I want this to happen.
First – I want to go to Gaza at the moment.
Second – Afghanistan.
Third – Iraq.
Fourth – Africa.
Even though I’m probably the last person anyone would want to go – I’m beginning to feel incredibly strongly about this.
