Sarah Palin is scheduled to make an appearence on Saturday Night Live this week. Lest I remind you what happened to Hillary after she made an appearence? Rock on Sarah! You go girl. Make sure everyone knows you can take a joke — thats the way to win the election for McCain!

During last night’s presidential campaign, Joe the Plumber, or Joe Wurzelbacher from Holland, Ohio, was mentioned more times than the war in Iraq. Why? What does a small town plumber have to do with the big time issues in this presidential campaign?

Joe asked candidate Barack Obama a simple question on Sunday in Ohio. He asked if he bought the small business he has been working for all his life, would he have to pay more taxes because it makes over $250,000. The answer from Obama is unfortunately yes. Obama believes this is the only way to fix the economy while still keeping most of America happy: tax small businesses and people that make over $250,000 a year. In the debate last night, Obama defended himself by saying “Not only do 98 percent of small businesses make less than $250,000, but I also want to give them additional tax breaks, because they are the drivers of the economy, they produce the most jobs.”

John McCain, on the other hand, believes the answer to that question should be no. He used it as an attack in last night’s debate. “Joe wants to buy the business that he has been in for all of these years, worked 10, 12 hours a day. And he wanted to buy the business but he looked at your tax plan and he saw that he was going to pay much higher taxes,” McCain spoke directly to Joe saying, “I want to tell you, I’ll not only help you buy that business that you worked your whole life for and I’ll keep your taxes low and I’ll provide available and affordable health care for you and your employees. And I will not stand for a tax increase on small business income.”

McCain may have thought he could win over some of Obama’s votes by bringing in Joe the Plumber, but the problem is that not very many Americans can actually relate to Joe’s problem. There aren’t very many people in America in a position to buy a small business, especially with the economy crashing left and right. And more often than not, when one does buy a small business, their tax bracket will increase. It is just a matter of simple math. When you make more money, you pay more taxes, no matter who is president – this is how it works, unless you happen to be Exxon-Mobil, anyway. Many small business owners do in fact make less than $250,000 a year, Obama is correct on that one. But most importantly, putting Joe the Plumber’s problem at center stage during the presidential debate takes time out of talking about most American’s concerns.

The Washington Post reported yesterday that Joe Biden (D – VP Elect) is looking a little different… The lines on his forehead are less defined than they were last July.

“Barry Cohen, a Rockville plastic surgeon, is more blunt. “He clearly has had Botox,” the doctor, a Republican, told us. “The lines are gone on his forehead. There is no way makeup or surgery could do that.” Georgetown spa owner Erwin Gomez, who knows his way around some of D.C.’s most scrupulously groomed faces, agrees: “On the right and the left temple, you can see the lines, but he has no wrinkles in the forehead.” [Washington Post]

Damn! Even our politicians get Botox! What is this world coming to. That stuff doesn’t last long, so he’ll probably be lookin’ old by inauguration. Oh and P.S., notice the guy who said he clearly had the ‘Tox… Republican. Just putting that out there. You know, for your thoughts.

This basically sums up the entire debate. No need for the details.

I am utterly disappointed. I really, really wanted something fun an interesting to happen. Really – the debate was cool yeah Sarah Palin didn’t answer anything, but who thought she was actually going to? Joe Biden did a great job at not being condescending and stating the facts, proving to me that he should probably be in the running for president, and that he was a great choice for Obama. Now we can forget about the running mates and focus on who really matter – the actual candidates.

All of this Sarah Palin nonsense is reminding me of the good old days of bad hair and spandex. Yes, I mean the 80’s, but more importantly, the debate between G H.W. B and and Ms. Geraldine Ferraro. Yes, I may have been just old enough to realize I was drooling on my bib in 1984, but I have watched the debate for my job, and I can formulate an educated opinon on it, despite popular belief.

Ferraro at the time was criticized for her lack of experience, only being a State Representative for a couple of years. She was chosen by Walter Mondale to help boost his approval ratings nationally, much like Mrs. Palin. UNLIKE Palin, Ferraro actually sort of knew what she was talking about. She also is a New Yorker, from Queens, and knew how and when to talk back.

Palin on the other hand, has baffled us with her lack of knowledge on just about every issue, from foriegn policy, to what news magazines she should be reading up on. She has been the laughing stock of the left ever since she stepped on the podium saying something about hockey moms and pitbulls wearing a lot of lipstick. She certainly has boosted the McCain campaign, not because of her experience or personality, but because of her instant celebrity. But even the right have been starting to seem like they almost regret their decision.

The Katie Couric interviews basically gave us a preview of what’s to come in this debate. I think we’ll hear a lot of Alaska speak about mavericks and pitbulls, and a lot of i’ll get back to ya’s. But on the other hand there is a chance that Joe Biden may have underprepared for this debate after realizing his opponent. Biden does have a reputation of being a little on the cocky side, with nobody really knowing what he’s going to say, so I think there’s a fair chance he is thinking about how easy it is going to be to walk all over Palin. I think that is never a good idea, no matter how many times Palin proves to be a political moron.

I’m super excited for tonight nonetheless.
