NBC’s comedy line ups have been the only thing keeping them alive in the past couple of TV seasons. With 30 Rock and The Office quickly becoming cult classics, I couldn’t wait to jump on board with Kath & Kim, their latest comedy installment. Then I started reading the reviews.
K&K is based on an Australian comedy of the same title, about a mom and daughter moving back in together. Selma Blair plays Kim, full grown daughter just divorced, Molly Shannon plays Kath, mom hairdresser. They are classic American white-trash, and apparently this doesn’t translate as well into the series as I thought it might.
Entertainment Weekly gives it a C-, saying “the core problem with K&K is that there’s no character to root for.” [EW]
Variety says K&K is “snide but not smart…will likely leave American audiences scratching their heads.” [Variety]
Check out the promo after the jump.
